KKU’s Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies Hosts "Freshmen Welcoming Train 2026" to Foster Positive Experiences and Cultural Preservation
June 27, 2026 – The Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, Khon Kaen University (KKU) brought smiles and lasting impressions with the launch of the "Freshmen Welcoming Train 2026" project. The event transformed conventional university initiations into a highly positive and creative experience, taking first-year students on a relationship-building train journey from Khon Kaen to Nong Khai. The activity strongly emphasized safety, equality, respect for human dignity, and the continuation of the heartwarming "Baisri Su Kwan" tradition to welcome the new students into the university's embrace.
The atmosphere at the starting train station was vibrant and bustling. Ajarn Chakkrawan Kleebua, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, along with the executive team, faculty members, senior students, and alumni, gathered in large numbers to give the freshmen a warm send-off. The train ride served as a vital medium to break the ice and ease the new students' excitement. It provided a unique space for them to learn about social coexistence, mutual support, discipline, and teamwork.
Upon arriving at their destination in Nong Khai province, the student delegation traveled to pay their respects to "Luang Pho Phra Sai" at Wat Pho Chai, a royal temple, as well as the faculty’s sacred shrines. This visit was intended to seek blessings, prosperity, and good fortune as the students embark on their higher education journey.
At 4:00 PM, the highly valued "Baisri Su Kwan" ceremony took place. Following the rich traditions and local wisdom of the Isan people, faculty members, staff, and seniors tied white blessing threads around the freshmen's wrists. This affectionate gesture served as a blessing and an expression of love and care. The atmosphere was filled with deep appreciation and smiles. The ritual not only boosted the morale of the newcomers but also encouraged the younger generation to learn and preserve traditional Thai culture.
Later that night, at 11:00 PM, the train of memories safely returned to Khon Kaen Railway Station. Asst. Prof. Suntaree Buchitchon, Ph.D. Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, along with executives and lecturers, personally waited at the station to welcome the first-year students back home. This heartwarming reception marked a perfect conclusion to the project and instilled a deep sense of pride in the new students.
