Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies Launches "More Care...Supporting Minds" Project to Strengthen Staff in Addressing Student Mental Health Crises

On Monday, June 9, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, Khon Kaen University, hosted the "More Care...Supporting Minds" workshop for faculty and staff. Held at Innovation Park within the Integrated Learning and Practical Building 2, the project focused on "Preparedness for Incident Response and Caring for Students in Mental Health Crises," aiming to enhance the capabilities of faculty and staff in responding to and providing initial assistance to students facing mental health challenges.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Chakkawan Glebbua, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, who emphasized the growing complexity of student mental health issues. He noted that academic pressures, evolving societal conditions, and personal circumstances increasingly contribute to these challenges, directly impacting students' quality of life and academic performance.

"This project aims to build knowledge and understanding of mental health crises among students, especially in vulnerable situations," stated Mr. Chakkawan . "It also strengthens the role of faculty and staff in providing appropriate initial assistance through learning communication skills, empathetic listening, basic situation assessment, and developing a systematic mental health care network within the university." 

In the afternoon session, Dr. Ussanee Tunsungnain, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, extended gratitude to the speakers and participants, highlighting the significant benefits gained from the training and its practical application in student care.

The "More Care...Supporting Minds" project was initiated and driven by the Academic Support and Student Development Department. It benefited from the invaluable contributions of distinguished experts who shared their knowledge and experience:

  • Assistant Professor Dr. Netchanok Kaewjanta, Head of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Department, Faculty of Nursing, Khon Kaen University

The successful organization of this workshop marks a significant step towards establishing an efficient and sustainable student mental health care system, ensuring students can fully realize their potential as vital contributors to society in the future.
